Shapps sets up social housing taskforce
A social housing taskforce has been drawn up by Grant Shapps, it has been revealed.
Speaking to housing association chief executives at the National Housing Federation’’s (NHF) London headquarters, the shadow housing minister unveiled his intentions to create a group consisting of those with senior housing jobs to investigate ways of improving tenant mobility.
The organisation is to be chaired by NHF chief executive David Orr who claims that it "will be a serious opportunity to meet the aspirations of tenants who want to move".
"I expect the taskforce to examine a number of ideas to make it easier for tenants to move throughout the country," he states, pointing out the federation already has a number of proposals in place on how to improve access to social housing for people wishing to move.
Following the Conservative’’s Manchester conference last month, Mr Orr praised the party’’s proposals to abolish specific building targets in favour of constructing homes based on local need as "very welcome".
