Housing association plans Borders short break service
A Scottish housing association is to work with the local council to set up a short break facility for people living with disabilities.
Margaret Blackwood Housing Association is to make a two-bedroom flat available for people with disabilities to use as a break away from their normal daily life.
The project - in coordination with Scottish Borders Council’’s social work services sector - has seen a number of housing jobs created in order to staff the open-plan facility, which will have a special separate room for carers.
Jock Welsh, Margaret Blackwood’’s support services director, said: "When social work services suggested the short stay flat, it made perfect sense for us, enabling us to make excellent use of an existing resource."
Meanwhile, Manchester-based Parkway Green and Willow Park housing trusts have teamed up with the local MP to back a campaign which aims to stop energy firms overcharging their poorest customers.
