Housing associations to build sustainable homes in Peterborough

An environmentally-friendly housing development is to be built in Peterborough, it has been revealed.

Ppod – a consortium of Browne Smith Baker architects and the housing associations Gentoo Homes and Morris Homes – have been selected to construct homes across a seven-hectare site.

Of the 334 properties – which will adhere to level six of the code for sustainable homes – 35 per cent are to be made affordable for those on lower incomes.

The consortium was chosen by Peterborough council, the East of England Development Agency, Opportunity Peterborough and English Partnerships.

Steve Carr, director of policy at English Partnerships, said: "This isn”t just about eco-living – it is about making new housing schemes a much better deal for owners and tenants by creating comfortable and cost-efficient homes for a range of incomes."

In addition, community centres and an energy plant will be incorporated into the development.

Such news could be of interest to those looking for jobs in housing.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that LHA-ASRA had been given the green light by North East Derbyshire district council to build 32 affordable bungalows in North Wingfield.
