Housing Corp exceeds targets
The Housing Corporation has announced it has exceeded many of its targets ahead of its dissolution later this year, it has been revealed.
Over the course of 2007-08, the housing organisation funded the completion of 21,538 properties available to purchase on an affordable basis. Such a figure is above the corporation’s target of 19,253.
Meanwhile it had been set a goal of 28,000 affordable rent homes, although it actually constructed 29,557.
In particular, the Housing Corporation was indicated as dramatically exceeding targets for affordable homes in the north-west and Yorkshire.
Later this year, however, the organisation is to be dissolved and replaced by two separate bodies - regeneration and development group the Homes and Communities Agency and regulatory institution the Tenant Services Authority.
Steve Douglas, chief executive at the Housing Corporation, said: "I believe that the corporation is in great shape to help give both the Tenant Services Authority and the Homes and Communities Agency a flying start in what we know is a tougher market place."
Earlier this year, it was revealed housing consortium Quantum had surpassed the affordable homes building targets set by the corporation.
