Stockton receives housebuilding financial support
Stockton borough council - in conjunction with a number of housing associations - have secured funding in which to build affordable homes, it has been revealed.
The news has seen the council receive some £2,944,000 which will help to develop properties across the borough for residents from vulnerable sections of the community - including young people and those with learning disabilities.
In addition, the monetary assistance will fund the expansion of residential developments in Hardwick and Thornaby.
Steve Nelson, cabinet member for housing and community safety for the council, said: "This is vital funding to enable Stockton to reach its goals in providing affordable housing in the borough and help more people to fulfil their dream of living in a new home, whether they rent or buy."
Earlier this month housing minister Caroline Flint recent revealed a three-year funding initiative which will see local councils benefit from a total of £610 million to help them free up land to build properties on.
