Housing associations ‘making efficiency gains’
Those with housing association jobs are operating more efficiently, it has been reported.
In figures released by the Housing Corporation, it was revealed that housing associations in England achieved operating efficiency gains of some £360 million during 2005-07.
However, the Operating Cost Index also indicated that between 2005-07 total costs for housing associations were increasing above the rate of inflation over the same period of time.
Clare Miller, director of regulation for the Housing Corporation, pointed out that despite "significant efficiency gains" made over this period of time housing associations may be able to make further improvements.
She said: "The wide range in results between similar associations suggests the scope for further gains in operating cost efficiency are deliverable and indeed should form a critical part of associations’ business strategies."
Earlier this year, deputy chief executive at the Housing Corporation Peter Marsh stated that housing association workers must make sure their organisations are operating effectively if they are to outride the impact of the credit crunch.
