Walthamstow stadium to be converted into affordable housing

Affordable housing is set to be at the heart of a development due to be constructed at the Walthamstow Greyhound Stadium in London, it has been revealed.

Purchased by a consortium consisting of yoo Capital, L&Q and KW Linfoot, the 8.1 acre site is to be transformed into a mixed tenure residential scheme.

The development is to incorporate a mixture of flats and houses available on either a social rent or shared ownership basis, in addition to being able to be bought outright.

There will also be a range of extended homes catering for those with large families.

Andrew Thorpe, managing director of yoo Capital, claimed that the project is "a great opportunity for us to work alongside an affordable housing provider to offer a truly integrated social and private residential development".

Earlier this month, Persimmon revealed its intentions to double the number of affordable homes it constructs over the medium-term.

By the end of this year the firm has set a target of 2,700 such properties to be built, as it eventually looks to construct 5,000.
