Persimmon reports rise in construction of affordable homes
An increasing number of affordable homes are set to be built, it has emerged.
In a statement by Persimmon, it was revealed that the housebuilder is looking to double the number of such properties constructed over the medium term, Building.co.uk reports.
Over the course of 2007, the firm constructed 2,000 homes on a social and affordable basis.
However, this year will see 2,700 properties be built, with this eventually rising to 5,000.
Mike Farley, chief executive of the firm, said: "We will look to prioritise those sites that are ripe for social housing."
He added that demand for such homes is "not going to go out of vogue" as new affordable properties are set to be built across the country.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that a seven-figure affordable homes development in the Cornish village of Boyton - delivered by North Cornwall district council, the Housing Corporation and Westcountry Housing - is to be opened.
