Umbrella housing association created in Nottingham

An umbrella organisation has been created for a number of housing charities operating in Nottingham, it has been revealed.

Known as the Nottingham Community Almshouse, the institution will be managed by
Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) and will see seven almshouse charities located across the east Midlands city to work together and share examples of best practice.

David Simmons, secretary of the new charity, said: “NCHA has a proud tradition of working with almshouse charities and is able to offer a lifeline to trustees of charities who are struggling to manage and maintain their homes.”

He added that the creation of the community almshouse project will allow NCHA to manage its properties “much more efficiently”.

Among the almshouses included in the project are purpose-built bungalows in Bulwell and the Well Almshouses, which was constructed at Clifton-cum-Glapton in 1709.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Northamptonshire-based Wellingborough Homes had joined the Quantum Consortium in a move which will allow it to make use of the skills and knowledge base of other organisations in the group such as East Midlands Housing and Futures Housing Group.
