North Staffordshire to receive regenerated homes
RENEW is to regenerate a number of homes in North Staffordshire, it has been revealed.
In partnership with Housing Corporation, the Beth Johnson Housing Association and English partnerships, RENEW is to convert three pairs of properties in Shelton into three single larger homes which offer more bedrooms and expanded living space.
Mark Meredith, elected mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, said: "This innovative project will explore new ways of modernising and reusing older terraced houses.
"It will also provide homes for local families who want to stay in the area but who can’t find a big enough place in the area now."
He added that the project is a good example of how RENEW and its various partner agencies are "working to improve housing choice and regenerate our neighbourhoods".
Mr Meredith also reported that should the initiative be a success then similar schemes may take place in other parts of the city.
The homes will be made available for rent or shared ownership via Beth Johnson.
Work on the homes is set to begin later this year.
Earlier this month, housing minister Caroline Flint unveiled a new funding initiative which will see the Housing Corporation receive £200 million to purchase new homes which will then be made available to members of the public via social rent or the Homebuy scheme.
