Affordable homes planned for St Albans

A number of affordable properties are to be built in St Albans, it has been revealed.

The Hightown Praetorian and Churches Housing Association has received an allocation of the homes to be built by Barratt Homes and Bellway Homes on the site of a former Kwik Save warehouse off the A5183.

Some 28 homes under the development will be available for rent to tenants on the housing waiting list, while 60 will be either rented or shared ownership for consumers deemed to be "key workers" - those in public sector roles such as social workers and nurses.

David Bogle, chief executive for the HPCHA, said: "The development is in a popular area with excellent travel links to London, Watford and St Albans city centre."

Such news may be of interest to those seeking planning jobs in the area.

The properties will be ready for ownership between this September and the end of next year, the St Albans Observer reveals.

In other planning job news, the government recently announced that thousands of properties are to be constructed on brownfield sites which are currently in a state of disuse.

However, English Partnerships pointed out that those involved in planning who are looking to develop on such areas will have to incorporate high levels of environmental sustainability into their designs.
